Superintendent's Update

Many of you are probably aware that Governor Cuomo announced today that schools in New York State will remain closed for the remainder of the school year due to the coronavirus pandemic.  Under the circumstances, it was the only logical choice despite the hardships that it places on our students, staff, families, and community.

It is not yet clear when the school year will officially end.  We are hoping to see that information in the Executive Order that follows or in the days ahead.  In the meantime, we will continue to provide remote learning and food distribution for our students.

I am so proud of our faculty, staff and administration who have stepped up to provide high quality education, counseling, and food distribution plans under the most extraordinary circumstances.  You are my heroes.  To our parents, my deepest appreciation goes out to you for what you are challenged to do by balancing work, teaching, and childcare under tremendous pressure.  You are also my heroes.

To our students, keep working hard to get the most out of remote learning.  It can be tough, I know, but your teachers and counselors stand ready to help you all they can. I am not sure what to say to our seniors who are missing out on what should be their time in the spotlight.  I'm sorry. We have a great group of parents and staff who are planning to honor you the best they can.  While it won’t give back those special moments you have lost, we hope it gives some comfort that so many are thinking of you in this difficult time.

There will be much more to come in the days ahead but I wanted you to know we stand ready to support you through this unprecedented time in our history. Together, we will get through it.

Here is a link to Alicia Keys’ new song “Good Job”  .
It is a wonderful tribute to all on the front line of this pandemic and expresses best how I am feeling about all of you right now.

Take care and be safe,
