Two of Massena Central teachers selected as leaders in new state program
Massena Central Schools teachers Dee Cook and Julie Albert have been selected as ambassadors in the New York State Common Core Ambassador Program.
The new program is designed to inform and support the new national learning standards known as Common Core via a network of effective and carefully selected teachers from across the state.
Director of Curriculum Sarah Boyce nominated Jefferson Elementary second grade teacher Mrs. Cook and Madison Elementary fourth grade teacher Mrs. Albert based on “the leadership role each teacher took during the aligning of our math curriculum to the Common Core Standards last year. Both teachers demonstrated the ability to present information to their colleagues in a knowledgeable and professional manner.”
“They have also embraced the philosophy behind the educational shifts in math and are supporters of the direction New York State Education Department is moving the math curriculum,” said Sarah.
As ambassadors, Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Albert will attend extra training sessions on the Common Core and then work with a select group of teachers to develop specific tools to help other teachers teach to those standards. The ambassadors will receive training on the use of the grades PreK-12 math and English language arts curriculum and even be candidates for a starring role in New York State Education Department (NYSED) videos, which highlight the work of educators across the state.
