|FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2016:† IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION.† THE HIGH SCHOOL CONDUCTED A LOCK-DOWN DRILL FROM 1:10 PM - 1:40 PM TODAY.† THIS WAS ONLY A DRILL.|
Massena Central’s foreign exchange student Carlos Menchon-Rodriguez had a wonderful surprise when his parents, sister and grandmother arrived in Massena for a visit. Carlos’ parents arrived at Massena Central for a tour of the high school with school administrator Mr. Patrick Farrand. They presented Mr. Farrand with a framed photograph of Sagovia Spain their hometown. The picture had the former castle of the king of Spain and Cathedral along with snow capped mountains in the background.
Mr. and Mrs. Menchon-Rodriguez were very impressed with the tour of Massena Central High School, the administrators, and the high school staff. It made them very happy to see how much technology and resources were available to Carlos. They were very impressed with the support and friendship that Carlos has received from the teachers, administrators, and students. As they toured the building, they had the opportunity to catch a rehearsal for the upcoming musical. Once again they were impressed to see such talented students. They were very amazed at the amount of school buses that the district has and how many students utilize them. They have never seen such a thing.
Ms. Gretta Doud (Native American Supported Studies ) accompanied the family and assisted with translations as they toured Massena and its surrounding areas. Earlier in the school year Carlos, Gaoyun jiang (foreign exchange student) and Kennedy Norris visited New York City with Ms. Doud. The Menchon-Rodriguez family ended their stay in Massena on Saturday with a wonderful dinner and reception by the staff at Hebert Steak Ranch owned by Lynne Hebert. They were very delighted with their meal and the relaxed atmosphere the restaurant offered after a long day spent touring Canada. Ms. Doud, Mr. Boyle (Spanish Dept. Chairperson) and Mrs. Boyle joined the family for dinner. They were very happy and appreciative for a wonderful weekend. Carlos and his family left Sunday morning for a tour of New York City.
